SCOPE OF THE SLICON SEA BELT SUMMIT IN FUKUOKA 2008

Semiconductors form the foundation of and lay at the heart of electronics. The Semiconductor industry is an enterprise that exploits technical development to deliver constant breakthroughs to overcome obstacles and creates that promotes competition that, in turn, drives new demands. The semiconductor industry therefore is one of the driving factors in the development of our ubiquitously networked society in the 21st Century. Broader alliances are required in various aspects such as market expansion, technology development, and human resources enhancement.

Asian countries and regions are strengthening their positioning as a heart of technology development and manufacturing bases of semiconductor in the world. The Silicon Sea Belt, including Kyongi-do (Korea), Kyushu, Shanghai, Beijing, Hsinchu (Taiwan), Hong Kong, Singapore, and India collectively, forms a vital center of excellence and industries for semiconductor design through manufacturing. Stronger partnership among industry-government-academy in those regions will generate the collective strength in the Silicon Sea Belt.

Fukuoka prefecture, Japan has conceived the Silicon Sea Belt Summit as a collaborative and open regional concept drawing together and harnessing the accumulated industrial, academic and governmental resources of the region to develop a cooperative design and manufacturing basis for System ICs.

The Silicon Sea Belt Summit, sponsored by the prefecture, aims to assemble and concentrate the wisdom of opinion leaders of Asiafs semiconductor industries to exchange views about enhancing collaboration in technology development, optimizing workforce and personnel training, and exploring market creation and development in the Silicon Sea Belt region.

Since its start in 2003, The Silicon Sea Belt Summit has been providing proactive information network opportunities among the participants on industry-academy collaboration, human resource development, market creation, and technology development. The participants reaffirmed the importance of information sharing toward stronger alliances and efforts in technology development and market expansion within the Silicon Sea Belt.

The sixth Annual Silicon Sea Belt Summit 2008 will focus on the automotive electronics and semiconductor technologies which drive the solution for the global common challenges for environmental and secured society issues.

Kyushu, as a world leading production base of automobiles with over million cars per year, is piled up with automotive related industries. The strategy and tactics by corporate management in automobile and its related industries will be addressed at the Summit. The heated panel discussion on one of the keen challenge for the global semiconductor industry, human resources issues, will be shared among the regions in Silicon Sea Belt.
