Scope of the Silicon Sea Belt Summit in Fukuoka 2010
East Asian countries and regions are strengthening their positioning as a heart of technology development and manufacturing bases of semiconductor in the world. The "Silicon Sea Belt" regions, including Kyongi-do (Korea), Kyushu (Japan), Shanghai, Beijing, Hsinchu (Taiwan), Hong Kong, Singapore, and India collectively, form a vital center of excellence and industries for semiconductor as the global manufacturing basis and engineering human resources as well as the world’s largest semiconductor market.
As an corner stone of "Silicon Sea Belt" project, Fukuoka prefecture, Japan has been hosting the Silicon Sea Belt Summit annually since 2003 aiming to assemble and concentrate the wisdom of opinion leaders of Asia's semiconductor industries to exchange views about enhancing collaboration in technology development, optimizing workforce and personnel training, and exploring market creation and development in the Silicon Sea Belt region.
The eighth Annual Silicon Sea Belt Summit 2010 will focus on "Breaking Perspectives of Semiconductor Industry Fostering the Green Economy" aiming to discuss about the eco society and the role of semiconductor industries.
Fukuoka Prefecture and Its Role in The Silicon Sea Belt Fukuoka Project
The Fukuoka prefecture has been proactively promoting "Silicon Sea Belt Fukuoka Project" since 2001, aiming Fukuoka to be a world class system LSI design development basis. The project covers so-called "Silicon Sea-Belt" regions, Asian vital coastal regions centered with silicon LSI industry, including Kyongi-do (Korea), Kyushu, Shanghai, Beijing, Hsinchu (Taiwan), Hong Kong, Singapore, and India collectively. The Silicon Sea Belt Fukuoka Project has been carried on by industry-academia-government collaborative organization, Fukuoka Advanced System LSI R&D Hub Promotion Committee.
The highly recognized outcome of the project includes cultivation through training of over four thousands of system LSI design engineers at the College of System LSI, Fukuoka and Hibikino Semiconductor Academy, the establishment of exclusive facility for system LSI, Fukuoka System LSI Technology Center, and R&D support to system LSI enterprises. The project has shown a successful result of rapid and steady clustering of system LSI related enterprises.
The Silicon Sea Belt Fukuoka Project has been taking new direction at entering into its second phase since 2007. The Project aims to enforce the strategic R&D, cultivation of engineering resources, and expansion of global alliances to lead Fukuoka as a key position in Silicon Sea Belt regions as world-class advanced system LSI development base. The Project will emphasize the global partnership by promoting collaborative joint research with the research institutes in Silicon Sea Belt regions through the Fukuoka Cluster for Advanced System LSI Technology Development (2nd phase).
